AP Defence and T. Mariotti: Construction Starts on the First MTC/MTF Vessel for the Italian Navy

AP Defence and T. Mariotti reach a new milestone as construction begins on MAR241, the first MTC/MTF vessel for the Italian Navy.

AP Defence, which represents the T. Mariotti shipyard in the defence sector worldwide, celebrates the start of construction of MAR241, the first MTC/MTF (Coastal Transport and Lighthouse Assistance) vessel for the Italian Navy. The keel-laying and coin ceremony took place at the Piombino Industrie Marittime shipyard, in the presence of representatives of the Italian Navy, the Naval Armaments Directorate (NAVARM) and the shipyard’s management.

A versatile multi-role platform

MAR241 is the first of a series of small auxiliary vessels, part of a wider programme to renew the Navy’s auxiliary fleet. The vessels will support the maintenance of the Lighthouse and Maritime Signalling Service and transport vehicles, personnel and solid and liquid cargo in national and international waters. A modular aft working area can embark reconfigurable, deployable units, adapting the ships to a wide range of missions.

Building on Olterra

The ceremony took place just twenty days after the launch of Olterra, T. Mariotti’s first military vessel. For AP Defence, MAR241 confirms the shipyard’s growing role in the naval defence sector and strengthens a partnership that continues to deliver results.
